Bed Bondage: A Toy Box Tease
Much like my husband when we do immobilization play, Christmas is all wrapped up. The presents have been opened, naughty boys and girls got switches (if they were lucky), and after all the holiday mayhem, we all want to not move or go anywhere for a while. So I thought it would be a perfect time to talk about my favorite toy to help with staying put, our under-the-mattress bed restraint system.
As I said in my previous blog post, my husband and I have been tying each other up for a long time. We love using our favorite wrist and ankle restraints but finding anchor points to connect them to has always been a bit of a challenge. If you are using them on furniture designed for the purpose of restraint like a St. Andrew’s Cross or a spanking bench, it’s easy. If you’re using them on a bed, you must find a place on the bed frame that won’t damage the furniture but will also feel secure.
We had talked about getting some type of bed bondage restraint system for a while. However, it wasn’t until we stayed overnight at our friend’s bed and breakfast with a kinky twist, that we used one. They have a very basic under-the-mattress bondage system similar to the Sports Sheets model. It’s a four-point system with Velcro wrist and ankle restraints. We enjoyed it, and we appreciated being able to try it out so see the pros and cons before buying our own. The set-up is easy, and it is very adjustable to make it very simple for beginners to use.
However, we found that there was too much ability to wiggle. We really wanted to explore the idea of immobilization, to be completely tied down with no ability to move. We also wanted to explore being restrained in different positions on the bed besides just spread-eagle. This meant that we needed more than just four points of contact. We turned again to the company who made our wrist and ankle restraints, Leather Creations, to see what they had to offer.
They have a few good options for either above-the-mattress or under-the-mattress. We wanted the more discreet option of under-the-mattress to be able to tuck the anchor points out of sight. We chose Dave’s Bed Bonds. These come in nylon or poly webbing, will fit a standard or a high-rise mattress, and have a basic or deluxe design. They are virtually identical except for the material used. The poly is less soft than the nylon, but it is also half as expensive. Both the nylon and the poly webbing are 1 ½” with large D rings. The nylon has a break strength of 6000 pounds, and while the poly has less of a break strength at 1050 pounds, I doubt either my husband or myself can break it. I’ll let you know how it does when I try to restrain Captain America!
We decided to go with the poly, standard, deluxe for a queen bed. The difference between the basic and the deluxe is that the standard has eight anchor points, whereas, the deluxe has fourteen anchor points. The design of this restraint system is basically a grid that fits underneath the mattress. This means that the weight of the mattress and occupant helps to hold the entire system in place. The anchor points are D-rings attached to the straps that hang out from underneath the mattress. With the deluxe model there are three anchor points at the head of the mattress, three at the foot, and four on either side of the mattress. These can all be tucked under when not in use.
There are lots of advantages to this design. One of the simplest is that it is the most versatile. It allows the positioning of the body in numerous ways. My husband has occasional shoulder joint pain, and this design allows me to still be able to strap him down in a way that is comfortable for him. The extra anchor points also allow for more playing with rope, which we’ve been exploring more and more. I am new to rope play, and so far, I am loving the idea of basically tying him into my spider’s web.
I’ve used the Bed Bonds many times with my husband, but I have also used it with playmates. We have also used it when we travel. The webbing means that it is incredibly lightweight. The grid design makes it simple for two people to set up, but it does require you to just lift up the mattress and slide it in place. However, if you are setting this up by yourself, this is a bit trickier. It is dependent on mattress size; so you do need to make sure that you match the size to the bed. A queen restraint system won’t work with a twin or king bed.
The cost is also a consideration. We knew we wanted something a bit more complex and durable. Leather Creations came through for us again. The poly option made this more affordable at about $72, but the same thing in a nylon version will run you $140. You can find cheaper bed restraints on the market for less than $50 that will get the job done if all you want is some light restraint to spice things up in the bed.
Final Rundown
Pros:
- Lightweight and easy to set up
- Versatile
- Durable
- Discreet
Cons:
- Cost
- Bed size specific
Overall, Leather Creations makes a really great product. However, it is a bit pricey if all you want is something light and temporary without taking off the entire mattress. Therefore, I have to give this a 3.5 out of 5 stars just for the cost. It works wonderfully if you’re really into bondage and want to immobilize your partner, and for me, it’s one of my favorite additions to our toy box to weave a web for my husband.
